Titan 550 motor is not used only in Traxxas Stampede, it is also used in Traxxas Rustler, and Traxxas Bandit. The main reason why this motor is replaced, is that for $50 more you can get Brushless Velineon 3500 motor, which is much more durable, and stronger than Titan 550. So, when you look at the price of the Titan 550, which is around $25, and the price of the Velineon 3500, which is around $80, of course, you will pick Velineon.
There is always better option such as Velineon 3500 Waterproof motor, which price is around $160, or Mamba Pro Max 5700, which is available from $175. Now, we are talking about two excellent motors with capability to reach speed of 100 mph or even more. Now, I will ask you something. Is this speed something you want for your Traxxas Stampede? If it is, than I will say that is possible to Install Mamba Max Pro 5700 in Stampede, but it could be really hard to reach this speed with Stampede. This motor is made for racing trucks, and cars such as Traxxas Slash, not for Off road trucks. So, if you are going to make this upgrade, you will need to adjust transmission, clutch, tires, suspension, and other things.
From the other side, nobody can tell you how much this motor will live if you use him on Off road terrain. You have to make decision if you want to make your Stampede more racing, or you want it Off road style, as it is. If you don't want racing Stampede, then you don't need Mamba 5700 motor. Velineon 3500 Waterproof motor is more than enough strong for any kind of terrain you could imagine. It is waterproof, so you don't have to worry about the water. With this motor, you will have so much fun.
